Just over a year into its partnership with bed poverty charity Zarach, sleep brand Tempur has donated £10,000 towards the charity's festive Big Give event, part of a national initiative which ran for a week following Giving Tuesday (2nd December).
With match funding from Tempur and two other businesses for every pound given, Zarach’s event will enable the delivery of well over 400 beds and bed bundles to help lift children out of bed poverty this Christmas.
With almost 900,000 children across the UK affected by bed poverty (according to research by Barnardo's), Zarach delivers brand-new mattresses, pillows and bedding to families in need around the UK as part of its mission to guarantee that every child in England has a bed of their own.
Tobin James, MD at Tempur UK, says: “Ever since Zarach’s founder, Bex Wilson [pictured], reached out to me via a handwritten letter last year, I knew that Tempur had to be a part of her charity’s important mission to end child bed poverty in England. The fact that we live in a time where a bed – one of the most basic of needs – has become a luxury item for hundreds of thousands of families is absolutely heartbreaking.
“Sleep is crucial to supporting good physical and mental health. It allows the brain and body to rest, repair and recharge, ensuring optimal performance as we go about our day to day. It also helps us process and retain information acquired throughout the day and supports healthy growth and development – both especially important where children are concerned.
“We are incredibly proud to be supporting Zarach in its fight to end bed poverty by ensuring that all children in England have a safe and comfortable bed where they can enjoy a quality night’s sleep.”
Andy Peers, chief executive at Zarach, adds: “On behalf of everyone at Zarach, I want to extend our heartfelt thanks to Tempur for their incredibly generous donation to our Christmas appeal. Your support will make a meaningful difference to the children and families who rely on us, especially at this time of year. We are truly grateful for your partnership and commitment to our mission to end child bed poverty.”
