Bedmaker Shire Beds reinforced its commitment to local causes by donating a branded bed to The Big Sleep 2019, a collaborative fundraising event which involves Leeds business leaders, residents, players of rugby league team Leeds Rhinos and members of participating charities spending a night out on the terraces at Emerald Headingley Stadium to raise money for Leeds' vulnerable communities.
The chance to spend the night in the Rhinos-branded bed was auctioned for £3000. The total of nearly £50,000 raised will be shared by Leeds Rhinos Foundation, St Georges Crypt and St Gemma’s Hospice. Shire also makes an annual donation of mattresses to St George’s Crypt over the festive period, which takes in vulnerable period over this time.
Fara Butt, Shire's sales and marketing director, says: “We are delighted to be able to support The Big Sleep and the fantastic work of the Leeds Rhinos Foundation, St George’s Crypt and St Gemma’s Hospice. We are acutely aware of the rising statistics of homelessness, especially in our local area and wider community. It is the least that we can do, and, in keeping with the season, we have a deep sense of wanting to give something back for those who are less fortunate than others at Christmas time.”
Leeds Rhinos Foundation spokesperson Gareth Cook adds: “The Shire Beds ‘night in the bed’ auction was hugely successful and helped raise valuable funds for The Big Sleep 2019. We would like to thank them for the continued support of the work of Leeds Rhinos Foundation.”
