Swiss manufacturer of modular furniture USM has relocated from East to West, moving its Clerkenwell showroom to a new retail development in Marylebone Square. Although still catering to the contract and office sector, this strategic move marks a shift in focus from commercial spaces to the high-end residential market, reflecting "the furniture’s growing popularity and design status in the home interior sector".
For 60 years, USM has been synonymous with modular innovation. Launched in 1965 the modular system, based on a chrome-plated steel tube framework with metal panels, gained popularity in corporate offices worldwide. In the 90’s, USM modular furniture began to attract interest beyond offices, becoming an icon of Swiss design.
Visitors to the new two-storey space are taken on a journey through a series of room settings. The store concept was developed by design studio ForEveryday.Life, and is easily adaptable – like the furniture, says USM.
