Mattressman opens biggest store to date

Mattress specialist Mattressman opened its largest store to date, at Lakeside, Thurrock, this weekend (21st March), "reinforcing the brand’s commitment to physical retail amid ongoing pressure on the UK high street".

The 728 sqm Lakeside store is part of Mattressman’s growing network of 12 stores nationwide, and signals continued investment in a hybrid model that blends online convenience with in‑store expertise.

“Mattressman is growing its retail footprint, and our confidence in bricks and mortar has never been stronger,” says CEO Mark Wootton. “Our Lakeside store is our biggest yet, right in the heart of one of the UK’s busiest retail destinations, and it shows how serious we are about giving customers face‑to‑face guidance, hands‑on product experience, and unbeatable value alongside our already strong online offer.

“The store features Mattressman’s new in‑store configuration tool, Choose your Snooze, designed to help customers build their perfect bed setup based on sleep position, body type, comfort preference and budget, supported by trained in‑store experts – Mattressman’s Sleep Superheroes."

As part of the experience, the team is also trialling a Pillow Talk and Walk service, whereby customers select a pillow to test while they try their chosen mattresses.

"The aim is to demystify mattress buying and give shoppers a tailored route to ‘unbeatable sleep’, supported by science-backed recommendations and clear, jargon‑free advice," says Mattressman.

The Lakeside launch sees Mattressman investing in the local community through a donation of five mattresses to Thurrock‑based women’s charity Changing Pathways, which supports those rebuilding their lives after abuse. The brand says this forms part of its wider commitment to "pairing physical expansion with meaningful local impact, from job creation to helping more people access good‑quality sleep".

To celebrate the opening, Mattressman launched with 10% off all mattresses across the weekend, plus a free Mattressman plushie for the first 100 customers who purchased a mattress in-store. All mattress purchases on the opening day were entered into a prize draw for a premium mattress.

“In a market that has seen rapid online growth, physical stores remain a crucial part of the journey for big‑ticket purchases like mattresses,” adds Mark. “Customers still want to lie down, compare options side by side, and talk to an expert who can guide them – especially when quality sleep has such a direct impact on health and wellbeing.

"By investing in larger, experience‑led stores in high‑footfall locations like Lakeside, we’re creating a retail format that delivers the best of both worlds for today’s mattress buyers.”
