FIRA to host domestic furniture testing webinar

UKAS-accredited test house, FIRA International, has released details of its next webinar, which will focus on safety and compliance for domestic furniture.

Entitled ‘Domestic furniture testing - product safety considerations and compliance’, the session will take place on Tuesday 17th August at 10am and is scheduled to run for an hour. It is open to all those from across the furniture industry who are currently involved in, or have an interest in the domestic furniture market.

The session, hosted by Howard James, testing and technical manager at FIRA International, will demonstrate how domestic furniture products are tested (including tables, seating, beds and mattresses, children's furniture and outdoor furniture) using video of live examples of samples on test, during which Howard will explain the tests in action in line with the relevant standards, and cover common reasons for failure. The session will close with a Q&A, giving participants the chance to ask product safety and compliance questions which affect their products.

Speaking on the session, Howard says: “I am looking forward to hosting this new webinar focusing in domestic furniture as it’s a topic we’ve not centred on to date. Whilst heavily dominated by standards, there are some regulations which govern domestic products, and it’s key that compliance is adhered to in order to avoid potential prosecutions. The aim is to support delegates in highlighting the key standards and regulations across a range of products. By using video of products on-test we’ll be able to really pinpoint aspects of the standard in a live environment.”

A playback of the webinar will also be available for those who are unable to attend on 17th August. Those interested should contact [email protected].
