Fairway Furniture expanding to North Devon

Fairway Furniture has announced plans to open its fifth store in the South West, on Brannams Retail Park, Roundswell, Barnstaple, late this summer.

The new 15,000 sqft store will mark the first time the South West’s largest independent furniture retailer has traded in North Devon, bringing its products and Trustpilot ‘Excellent’-rated customer service to the area.

The Barnstaple store will feature the company’s new design format, which debuted in its Plymouth flagship in late 2024. It will offer a wide range of home furnishings, including sofas, chairs and recliners, dining and bedroom furniture, beds, mattresses, and complementary home furnishings, providing customers with "a comprehensive furniture destination under one roof".

This investment will also create seven new local jobs, spanning sales, customer service and operational roles, further underlining Fairway Furniture’s commitment to the region.

Fairway Furniture has deep roots in the South West and has grown steadily while remaining independent. Since 1976, when the company opened its first out-of-town store in Tavistock, it has been the trading name of Harding & Sons, a business founded 170 years ago in Plymouth.

MD Peter Harding says: “We are absolutely delighted to be announcing plans to open our fifth store, and especially pleased that it will be in Barnstaple. North Devon is an area we’ve wanted to serve for many years, and this new store will allow us to bring our passion for outstanding customer service and product range to the area for the very first time.

"As a business with over 170 years of South West heritage, it’s incredibly important to us that we continue to invest in the region and create local jobs. Opening in Barnstaple is a very positive step for Fairway Furniture, and we’re excited to become part of the local retail community.”

Fairway Furniture will be opening alongside HBH Woolacotts’ electrical superstore, another well-established regional business, which will be celebrating its own 50th anniversary in summer 2026.

Peter continues: “It’s great to be opening this store alongside HBH Woolacotts – a fellow independent and a strong regional business with a proud history of its own. Their 50th birthday in 2026 is a fantastic milestone, and it feels very fitting for us both to be investing in the region together.”
