The National Bed Federation (NBF) crowned its eight 2025 Bed Industry Awards winners on Tuesday 23rd September at the Bed Show gala dinner in Telford.
Radio and TV broadcaster, Vernon Kay, announced winners across bed manufacturing, component supplying and retailing at the annual Bed Show gala dinner and awards ceremony. An independent panel of judges selected the winners from a shortlist of finalists comprising NBF members and supporting bed retailers.
This year’s winners in the NBF member awards were: the Elevate Edison Luxury Plush mattress by Sealy UK for Bed Product of the Year; Platinum Q by John Cotton Nonwovens for Component Product of the Year; Harrison Spinks for Bed Manufacturer of the Year; and The Vita Group for Supplier of the Year.
Winners in the retail awards were: Bensons for Beds for National Bed Retailer of the Year; MattressNextDay for Online Bed Retailer of the Year; Mattressman for Medium NBF Retail Champion of the Year; and The M6 Bed Warehouse for Small NBF Retail Champion of the Year.
Tean Dallaway, NBF president, says: “Now in their 16th year, the esteemed NBF Bed Industry Awards remain a valuable opportunity to recognise the stand-out companies in the UK and Irish bed sector who have gone above and beyond in the last 12 months. Congratulations to all the worthy winners and finalists and those who put themselves forward to be judged.”
Harrison Spinks clinched Bed Manufacturer of the Year for the second consecutive year, once again delivering the strongest entry across all criteria, with its move to transfer 51% ownership of the company to an Employee Ownership Trust being a true stand-out. Judges praised the company for showing “relentless progress and great performance on not just one or two but all aspects of this year’s judging criteria”. The finalists were Shire Beds and Silentnight.
The Vita Group was crowned Supplier of the Year for clearly demonstrating its continued development of innovative solutions to challenging issues. According to judges, the supplier, which celebrates 75 years in business, is “ready to stand up and be counted as it continues to make progress with its cutting-edge sustainability solutions in a product not naturally associated with environmental stewardship”. The finalists were Fotex and John Cotton Nonwovens.
The judges for both company awards were Brian Ahern (The Furniture Makers’ Company), Richard Naylor (Hawkfield and Hawksfield Innovations) and Jonathan Hindle (chairman of the British Furniture Confederation, and MD and president of KI Europe).
The coveted Bed Product of the Year was awarded to Sealy UK for its Elevate Edison Luxury Plush mattress. The judges were impressed that Sealy had clearly listened to its customers, adding another dimension in feel and comfort to an established range. Without pushing price points higher, backed by robust research and excellent marketing resources and support, this was a stand-out winner.
The finalists were Relyon for its Carrisbrook Zipped Removable Topper mattress and Silentnight Beds for its UltraGel Cool-to-Touch 3000 boxtop mattress.
The judges were Steve Adams (Mattress Online), Sue Davies (Sue Davies Design Solutions), James Dunne (Prestige Beds), Paul Farley (Furniture News) and Joanna Fielding (AIS).
John Cotton Nonwovens won this year’s Component Product of the Year award for its Platinum Q, which incorporates its successful Platinum 3D polyester layer into a sumptuous yet resilient quiltable top layer. “It’s difficult to deliver that level of feel and resilience with a polyester,” said the judges. Platinum Q also scored highly across all criteria from innovation and eco-design credentials to value for money, commerciality and marketing support. The finalists were Boyteks for its Enviro mattress ticking and Carpenter for its Serene Foam.
The judges were Natalie Armstrong (Sealy UK), Danny Blackmore (Silentnight) and David Morris (Sleepeezee).
In an “extraordinarily close” decision, Bensons for Beds clinched National Bed Retailer of the Year. Despite economic challenges, Bensons expanded its retail footprint and launched a highly successful, bold new brand platform, earning a +41% increase in RoI. It also created its first creatively ambitious influencer campaign, driving substantial engagement across web channels. Bensons demonstrated a real appetite for innovation — trialling and expanding into new routes to market and customer touchpoints. The close finalists were DFS and Dreams.
MattressNextDay was crowned Online Bed Retailer of the Year for the third time. Its outstanding financial results saw turnover increase by +47% YoY, and judges experienced a website that delivered an exceptionally slick and intuitive user experience. Continued investment in this area resulted in a digital journey that enhances the online buying experience in line with some of the best ecommerce brands around. Expanding its in-house web team and initiatives such as the Brand Ambassador Programme, 100-night sleep trial, sustainability campaigns, staff wellbeing improvements, and local community support all helped MattressNextDay clinch the top spot. The finalists were Land of Beds and Mattress Online.
The M6 Bed Warehouse scooped Small NBF Retail Champion of the Year. The Cheshire-based retailer delivered exceptional financial performance and presented strong growth and continued development both instore and online. Investments through its new mattress care guide, free mattress recycling, logistics enhancements and community partnerships helped it stand out in the category. The finalists were Carters Bed City and The Carriage.
In a unanimous decision, the judges awarded Mattressman Medium NBF Retail Champion of the Year, which showed strong evidence in all criteria. Mattressman’s highlights include the success of its first national TV campaign, a complete rebrand, investment in staff through its Three-Year People Strategy and very impressive financial gains. The finalists were Linthorpe Beds and Prestige Beds.
Small and Medium NBF Retail Champion of the Year, Online Bed Retailer of the Year and National Bed Retailer of the Year were judged by Jarrod Bird (Interiors Monthly), Bernard Eaton (Greenwood Retail) and Dan Squires (Big Furniture Group).
Richard McMurrough (Propaganda) joined the National Bed Retailer of the Year judges, and James Winfield (Propaganda) joined Online Bed Retailer of the Year.
