Bowling team reconquers world record in memory of friend

A bowling team comprising Gavin Boden, sales director at fulfilment specialist Rhenus Home Delivery (UK), and three of his friends, has succeeded in breaking a tenpin bowling world record to raise money for St Andrew's Hospice.

Alongside Chris Robinson, Georgia McLean and Gary Jeans, Gavin's attempt was made in memory of their friend, Anthony Kyme, who lost his battle with skin cancer in 2021.

In 2017, Gavin helped set a doubles world record, bowling over 37,000 pins in 24 hours. On 7th October this year, at Go Bowling in Shipley, Gavin and his friends team beat the existing team world record of 39,557 pins bowled in 24 hours, managing to knock down 39,811 and raising some £5500 for charity, and counting.

"We broke the record by 254 pins, and only had nine minutes to spare at the end," says Gavin. "It fills me with great pride to have been able not only to achieve the world record, and to bowl with such amazing people who just wouldn't quit, but to do it all for an amazing cause – and to do it for Ant, who we miss every day."
