Teenager amazes fellow golfers at Barker & Stonehouse charity tournament

Ethan Jeff – the 13-year-old grandson of Dave Jeff, Barker & Stonehouse’s retired top salesman – stole the show at the Teesside Charity Golf Day and was awarded the Best Visitor trophy at the popular annual fundraiser.

The annual golf day, which is organised by North East independent retailer Barker & Stonehouse in aid of industry charity The Furniture Makers’ Company, took place on Wednesday 10th August at the Catterick Garrison Golf Club in North Yorkshire.

The day started with an early lunch in the clubhouse followed by a shotgun start to the tournament, which was attended by 60 members of the trade. Guests then later enjoyed an evening prize giving, dinner, presentations and a raffle.

The winners of the cups were Andrew Clarke (1-9 Handicap), Paul Gundry (10-15 Handicap), Michael Sheedy (16-28 Handicap), Alan Galloway (Best Overall), Robert Sefton (Veteran), Adrian Jeff, Ethan Jeff, Brian Reeve, Michael Taylor (Best Team) and Paul Millard (Best Gross), and Ethan Jeff (Best Visitor). Meanwhile, Callum Day won the Nearest the Pin competition and Adrian Jeff was awarded Longest Drive.

Paul von der Heyde, chairman of trustees at The Furniture Makers’ Company, attended the tournament and spoke to guests about the vital work the charity continues to perform in supporting people from the trade who are experiencing financial hardship.

The fundraiser raised £12,000 for The Furniture Makers’ Company.

James Barker, MD of Barker & Stonehouse, says: “As ever, we had an excellent turnout, fantastic weather and everyone enjoyed their day, plus we raised some money – what could be better?”

Paul von der Heyde adds: “Barker & Stonehouse’s long-time and much-valued support of our charity continues, and we want to extend our thanks for yet again organising a very enjoyable fundraiser that was incredibly well attended. The money raised will go a long way to supporting more people in the UK furnishing industry who have fallen on hard times.”
