The Chancellor Rishi Sunak has announced plans to offer those businesses classed as 'non-essential retailers' – due to re-open on 12th April – restart grants of up to £6000 per premises.

The grants are part of a £5b package that was revealed ahead of the Chancellor’s spring budget on Wednesday (3rd March). Local authorities will receive the funding in April, and will distribute the one-off grants, which will replace the current monthly system.

Many UK furnishings retailers have been forced to close for much of the past 12 months, with some finding the expense of re-opening – only to be locked down again shortly after – too much to bear.

Businesses having to wait longer to resume business, such as gymns and hospitality venues, may be eligible for grants of up to £18,000.
