DFS joins British trade association

DFS has joined the British Furniture Manufacturers (BFM) in a bid to further develop its own environmental, social and governance (ESG) priorities within the industry.

The retailer is the largest company to become a member of the national trade body. DFS employs more than 5000 people nationwide, with workshops in Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and Yorkshire.

BFM MD, Nick Garratt, says: “We are delighted to have DFS in membership. Promoting ethical business practices is core to what we do at BFM, and through BFC we lobby Government on issues around training, education, standards and the environment. Our work in environmental, social and governance mirrors that of DFS, who have a high commitment to sustainability and society.

“DFS has been built on long-term investment in British craftsmanship and manufacturing, and this is an exciting chapter in the business. We look forward to pooling our learning and best practice in areas including sourcing and production.”

COO at DFS, Scott Fishburn, adds: “Throughout 2020, we’ve put a lot of work into ensuring our business grows on the right ethical foundations. Part of that approach has included the development of an overall ESG strategy, and we look forward to working with the BFM to continue our journey in this area under membership.”
