Bristol retailer opens refurbished store

Bristol-based South West Upholstery has been busy refurbishing its shop on North Street, Southville, since it was forced to close in March due to the pandemic.

The £65,000 refurbishment project has increased the showroom size, by removing load-bearing internal walls, opening up the space and enabling the company to present more of its services.

The company, which specialises in bespoke furniture upholstery and soft furnishings for domestic and commercial clients, will now be in a position to display a wider variety of fabrics, sample projects and has a much larger viewing area. The new showroom will also be stocking a range of handcrafted homewares from Nkuku.

MD Ryan Ball says: “We took advantage of the enforced time out due to lockdown to forge ahead with this refurbishment which gives us such a great opportunity to really showcase what we’re able to do.

“Customers are so much more in tune with interiors trends now. There’s a huge appetite for reupholstering vintage or favourite pieces to bring them up to date, alongside a trend for one-off bespoke pieces of furniture.”

South West Upholstery was launched by Ryan’s grandfather John in his garden shed in Bishopsworth, originally repairing and re-covering seats for buses and coaches. The business now employs 11 and, in addition to the shop, has a warehouse and workshop in Bedminster.
