Furniture Village named retail Family Business of the Year

The UK’s largest family-run furniture retailer, Furniture Village, has been named retail Family Business of the Year in the national Family Business United awards.

Furniture Village took first prize due to its innovative approach to retail, rich culture and strong growth performance, delivering sustained competitive advantage.

The event, which takes place annually, was sponsored by PwC and Seven Investment Management amongst others. It had been planned to take place at London’s May Fair Hotel but was conducted online in response to the Covid-19 social distancing requirements.

Charlie Harrison, commercial director at Furniture Village, comments: “We are immensely proud to have won the retail Family Business of the Year. Our values of respect, trust, recognition and teamwork are central to our relationships with our colleagues, customers and the places in which Furniture Village operates. For us, the concept of ‘family’ extends beyond the family ownership of the business, it underpins everything we do.”

Specific aspects of Furniture Village’s approach were highlighted by the judges as being of an exceptional standard.

Paul Andrews, MD of Family Business United, explains: “We see many great submissions for these awards from many leading companies but this year Furniture Village’s submission stood out due to its ongoing retail innovations delivering sustainable competitive advantage. Another winning facet was the way in which Furniture Village champions and supports a wide range of other family businesses both at home and abroad. It is clearly a company with an excellent culture that has family values at its heart. They are the deserved winners of this year's retail Family Business of the Year award.”

Charlie concludes: “It was really heartening to find out we had won this award. The last few months have obviously been challenging in so many ways for the whole retail sector and those who work in it. It helps us to acknowledge that we at Furniture Village are doing something a bit special. I have to say a huge thanks to our incredibly talented and committed workforce. Being recognised in this way has given my family, and our extended family of Furniture Village teammates, a terrific morale boost.”
