Greenwood Retail, an organiser of high-profile sales events for independent retailers, celebrated its 1000th sale last month at independent bed retailer Jones & Tomlin, in Worthing.
Bernard Eaton, founder and MD, says: “When I first launched Greenwood Retail back in 2002 I wanted to create the most powerful and successful sales promotions for independent retailers, the likes of which had never been seen before. Now, almost 18 years on, we are delighted to have reached this substantial milestone and to have worked alongside so many talented people. It is fitting and most appropriate that our 1000th event should happen while working for such a fine company of talented people such as Jones & Tomlin.”
Greenwood reports that it has planned and co-ordinated more sales events in the UK and Ireland than any other sales company.
Bernard already had a retail background when he was inspired by headline-grabbing American sales. After researching the industry, and working with consultants from the US and UK, he devised his own technique tailored to the British retail market.
“We only work with quality retailers, and all Greenwood sales events are designed to send a positive message about the reasons for the sale," he says. "For example, the store might be clearing stock to undertake a huge refurbishment or update their product offer. Even a closing-down sale should be marketed in a way that clearly communicates the owner’s good reasons – for example, selling up so they can retire or change career.
“As a result, retailers can expect to generate from 30-100% of annual turnover in just 17 days of trade (depending on the type of event and other variable elements) – while maintaining commercial margins. We have even had some sales that have generated 100% of annual turnover in as little as five days. Greenwood Retail hosts around 50-60 sales events each year, and each one is meticulously planned for maximum impact and client ROI.”
