Jysk plots 15-store rollout in Ireland

Scandinavian chain Jysk will open its first store in Ireland on 2nd April.

Founder and chairman Lars Larsen will cut the ribbon to the store – in Naas, approximately 40km from Dublin – with the assitance of the Danish ambassador of Ireland, Uffe Baslev, and the mayor of Naas, Billy Hillis.

“The news that we open in Ireland has already had a lot of positive attention in local media, so I hope that a lot of customers will come and celebrate this special day with us,” says Lars. “We are excited to welcome the Irish customers and present them to our assortment and the Scandinavian culture, which has been an important part of making Jysk a success in all the other countries, where we have opened. When we look at the market, we have very high hopes that Jysk will have great opportunities to expand in Ireland.”

Jysk's initial goal is to open 15 stores in Ireland, creating 200 new jobs in the process.

“I couldn’t imagine a better way to celebrate Jysk's 40th anniversary than to add another country to the Jysk world map," adds Lars. "Expansion has been part of the DNA of Jysk since the first store opened 40 years ago, and I am happy to be able to mark that by opening our first store in Ireland. This is the last big country in Europe where people until now has not had the opportunity to go to a local Jysk store.”
