Gallery Direct purchases Dreamworks Beds

Gallery Direct has announced the purchase of the Westbury bed manufacturer Dreamworks Beds, in a deal that expands the supplier's home furnishing offer and adds further British manufacturing capacity to the group.

The purchase, which was completed on 11th September, was part of a strategic decision to acquire a successful UK mattress and upholstery manufacturer to enlarge Gallery’s skills and capabilities in the home furnishings industry.

Dreamworks Beds will continue to operate on a standalone basis as a sister company to Gallery Direct, under the group umbrella of Gallery Direct Holdings Ltd.

"This is fantastic news for Gallery's and Dreamworks Beds’ clients across the UK," comments Peter Delaney, MD of Gallery Direct. "The Dreamworks Beds team produces well-designed, great-value quality products that are handmade in the UK and delivered within an incredible two to three weeks. I am confident that both businesses will be able to work closely together to deliver benefits to both companies and their respective customers.

“They won the AIS gold standard award in 2013 and 2014 for outstanding quality and service, which is testament to Peter and John Ziemniak’s leadership and control, coupled with their dedicated and loyal workforce. The skills and knowledge of the Westbury team are outstanding and I am confident that we will grow our brands further, as we plan to continue to innovate and develop new products, collections and styles that will appeal to a range of different markets.”

The substantial design, procurement, logistics and infrastructure capabilities Gallery currently manages will be further enhanced by the knowledge and expertise of the Dreamworks Beds team. Gallery, which is headquartered in Sittingbourne, Kent, says it plans to develop the Dreamworks Beds operation in Wiltshire, where the team will continue to sell, manufacture and distribute products within its industry-leading production and delivery cycle.

Following the hand-over, Peter Delaney will be the MD of both businesses.

"The uniting of two strong businesses, which are ambitious, progressive and financially secure, is good news for our employees and clients alike,” comments Peter Ziemniak, current MD of Dreamworks Beds. “It is business as usual for our staff, suppliers and customers, as we look forward to continuing to build on our existing relationships.

“After more than 40 years in the industry, the time for retirement for John and me is here. It’s now time for Dreamworks Beds to keep moving forward under new ownership and leadership. When we met Gallery Direct we felt immediately that these were people that shared our passion for quality, customer service and running a good and fair business. We set out to be a business that customers enjoyed trading with, and we believe that Gallery shares this ethos.

“Dreamworks Beds has just closed the books on another record year and is growing strongly, so it’s the right time to hand over to Peter Delaney and his team who will help maintain this growth and assist Dreamworks Beds to exploit new and exciting opportunities. Although the sale is effective immediately, I will be around to see a smooth transition and to help achieve our shared goals."

The two businesses have agreed an undisclosed sum for the private sale.

“It’s been an honour and a pleasure at Dreamworks Beds – although sometimes very tough – to have achieved all the things we have done as a team,” adds Peter Ziemniak, “and I will be leaving behind people I have known for many years. I am confident that with Gallery Direct at the helm, the future looks very positive and our colleagues and clients will be in very capable hands going forward.”
