Warm weather and Mother's Day gifting combined with price matching drove good sales growth of 5.9% on this time last year for John Lewis. The fine weather over the weekend allowed customers to dream about spending more time outside. This was reflected in the significant increase in outdoor living sales. Footfall was up in branches and online saw its highest sales against the year this half to finish up 39.5%.
Furniture sales were strong, up 5.3%, driven by Beds and Bedroom with strong demand for the customisable 'Mix It' range. However, outdoor living performed best of all as the promise of sunshine came through and sales rose 117% against last year.
Online had its best week of the half taking 31% of all assortment sales, with Home performing well – up by 20%.
