MakeIT! Furniture launches new website for fifth year competition

Proskills UK has announced the launch of the fifth year of MakeIT! Furnutiture along with a new website that will make visiting the site an easier, more informative and interactive experience.

The MakeIT! Furniture competition which engages students with the furniture, furnishings and interiors industry shows students how furniture is designed and made through researching and designing products whilst investigating the various different aspects of the industry – from sourcing raw materials to producing finished products – as well as showing their understanding of environmental issues in the industry.

MakeIT! Furniture is a curriculum-mapped competition for years 9 to 12 and also includes a twinning element by introducing schools to local furniture businesses in order to give students the chance to experience the industry first hand. The aim is to show students and teachers that the industry is exciting and widespread and holds a wide range of career possibilities and with new workbooks and a wide range of tasks for students this year it set to be the best one yet.

The new website launched for the fifth MakeIT! Furniture is simple yet inclusive. It has been designed with its audience in mind with a clear and concise structure for students, teachers and employers. All resources and tips are easy to find and registering for the programme is easy, with step-by-step instructions.

MakeIT! Furniture 2013/14 is available to all schools and is now open for registration via the website or by contacting the team. The team is also looking for employers to team up with schools and to support the programme to help deliver this initiative.
