Jysk opens in Pontefract

The eighth British store from Danish furniture retailer Jysk opened last friday in Pontefract.

The global chain, which entered Britain five years ago, is one of the world’s biggest retail furniture groups, and recently broke the 2000th store barrier internationally. The UK was JYSK’s 30th country – there are now 35.

The privately-owned group opened its first UK stores in Lincoln and Mansfield in April 2008, following up with York, Blackburn, Bolton, Swadlincote and, earlier this year, Coventry.

“Jysk is finding favour with British shoppers in some of the most challenging economic conditions, and part of the reason for its success is its commitment to offering customers a great deal with quality goods at low prices,” says Steve Stenhouse, country manager for JYSK UK. “We are particularly keen on the location we have identified in Pontefract and aim to add choice and quality at irresistible prices to an already dynamic retail marketplace."
