The Furniture Makers’ Company, the City of London livery company and charity for the furnishing industry, is hosting a virtual intellectual property (IP) masterclass next month with Anti Copying in Design (ACID), the UK’s leading design and intellectual property campaigning organisation.
The webinar, which will take place via Zoom on Tuesday 17th November at 11am, will provide attendees with insights on IP basics and design protection specifically to achieve growth. ACID’s co-founder and CEO Dids Macdonald OBE (pictured) will share some of her practical insights into building a proactive IP strategy, answering the following questions: what is intellectual property?; why is it important?; what are the rules about using images?; how can I protect my designs?; the importance of IP agreements and online theft, and what can I do?; and what are the myths surrounding IP?
With Dids will be Niall Head-Rapson, director of McDaniel & Co, an ACID legal affiliate and IP design law expert.
Dids says: “British furniture designers and makers are some of the best in the world but unfortunately, there are those that want to take the fast-track to market by free-riding on your ideas and creativity to copy or adapt them. This will be our fifth webinar in the series of becoming IP savvy.
"Feedback has been excellent, including a recent participant who said ‘thanks so much for a great session. I found the mix just right in terms of information, case studies and a Q&A session. I’ve given presentations on IP in a former life and in a different sector and I sometimes struggled to pitch it right’.”
The speakers are not making a charge for this webinar, so a charity donation to The Furniture Makers’ Company in lieu of a joining fee would be appreciated – to give £10 text DONATE10 to 70191. Register to attend here.
