Silentnight apprentices praise respective schemes

In line with National Apprenticeship Week which took place earlier this month, Silentnight reports that it has taken on eight manufacturing apprentices and one engineering apprentice this year.

Silentnight offers award-winning two-year apprenticeships in a variety of business areas, from manufacturing, logistics and engineering, to more office-based roles such as IT, accountancy and customer services. All apprentices attend college up to one day a week, and spend time training both in their own department, and in other departments across the business.

All apprentices are guaranteed a full-time, permanent position upon successful completion of their apprenticeship.

The scheme has been running since 2011, so far helping 65 young people to kick-start their careers.

Previous apprentices include Jonny Garth, who undertook a junior management scheme. "I think the idea that you can earn nationally recognised qualifications, and even degree level qualifications whilst in the workplace is the biggest advantage of doing an apprenticeship," he says. "At Silentnight, personal development is very important, which I think is fantastic. The people are great too, and there’s a real sense of community, so overall it’s a great place to work."

Another is human resources apprentice Roisin Young. "You can get the same job through an apprenticeship as you can going through university, the only difference is you’ll have more experience and you will have given yourself a better opportunity to start saving," she says. "The way that Silentnight invests and cares about its apprentices is something I haven’t seen in any other company yet."

No deadline has been set for apprenticeships applications for the coming year, but it is likely to be April/May.
