Made in Britain

Like all domestic industries, Britain’s furnituremakers face stiff competition from overseas – but in most areas they are more than holding their own. And while the pandemic may not have completely levelled the playing field, it has thrown the many benefits of manufacturing at home into stark relief.

Manufacturing in the UK “makes sustainable sense” (Simba’s Steve Reid). It offers “speed of development and flexibility” (TCM Living’s Jonathan Fearn) and the “on-hand personal touch” (Westbridge’s Nichola Bell), and results in “trusted, high-quality products” (Hypnos’ James Keen).

Striving to meet the myriad changes in supply and demand brought about by the pandemic, Britain’s furniture manufacturers, and those that supply them, are making a real difference.

In July's issue, Furniture News presents a snapshot of the homegrown businesses that are making waves – at home, and further afield.
