The BFM's annual UK Furniture Review has revealed a rise in the value of trade sales in 2021 compared to the previous year, with the general UK market for all furniture also improving.
Analysis of the latest figures from the Office for National Statistics, PRODCOM and HMRC carried out by the British Furniture Manufacturers (BFM) showed trade sales values in the general furniture sector rose in 2021 compared to 2020, which was also an improvement on pre-pandemic figures for 2019.
All sectors saw the value of manufactured sales rise, but an increase in imports was also recorded, which resulted in the UK share of net supply falling by -1%.
The UK Furniture Review examines how the market has changed over the last full calendar year as well as the value of UK manufactured sales, imports and exports. It also analyses the size of the UK furniture market, the percentage of the market that is attributable to UK production and the unit price of items produced in the UK.
BFM MD Sean Holt says: “Individual data sets are produced for the general furniture sector as well as the different sectors within the market, to help manufacturers understand trends and make decisions going forward.”
