SATRA launches domestic furniture technical forum

SATRA Technology Centre has announced a new technical forum for domestic furniture, being held virtually on 7th July 2021.

The aim of the forum is to inform manufacturers, importers and retailers of proposed changes to the standards and legislation affecting furniture, and give them an opportunity to share their views on these changes.

The event will be led by Phil Reynolds (pictured), SATRA’s divisional manager for furniture and floorcoverings, and one of the UK’s leading furniture experts. He is currently chair of the BSI Committee FW0 ‘Furniture’ and acting chair of FW6 ‘Flammability performance and fire tests for furniture’, as well as convenor of two European standards committees for furniture and the UK expert on the majority of European and international standards committees related to furniture.

Phil comments: "The standards and regulatory requirements for domestic furniture are undergoing considerable developments. There are changes planned for the UK’s Furniture & Furnishings (Fire) (Safety) Regulations, and we have seen changes in the fire safety requirements for upholstered furniture being exported to the Republic of Ireland since the UK left Europe.

"In addition, there is considerable activity in the standards arena, with new and revised standards being developed for nearly all domestic products, including tables, chairs and storage furniture, children’s furniture and motorised furniture. It is essential that the furniture supply chain is aware of these changes so that they can prepare for them and feedback their views on the proposed changes."

Due to high demand, places are limited to two delegates for SATRA members and one delegate for non-members. To book a place, click here.
