New date for NBF members' Green Forum

The National Bed Federation (NBF) has announced the new date for its postponed Green Forum. The virtual event – which should have been held on the world’s 50th Earth Day in April – will take place on 3rd December.

Designed to offer members inspiration, expertise and information about working towards a more sustainable business model, the programme features speakers including: environmental author, educator and advocate professor Mike Berners-Lee; the joint author of the NBF’s recently published eco-design principles for mattresses, Owain Griffiths from Oakdene Hollins; Richard Cooper from the Knowledge Transfer Network (KTN); and James Goddin, founder of Hoskins Circular.

Topics to be covered will include ways in which businesses can take a fresh look at their ethics and purpose, assessing the lif cycle of a mattress, the challenges in reducing plastic waste and funding opportunities around it, plus the tools, data and metrics available to assess when and why to select natural or synthetic materials.

NBF executive director Jessica Alexander says: “Unfortunately, plans for the original event had to be shelved because of the lockdown, but there is a real appetite among members for more information about everything to do with the circular economy.

“The need to embrace more sustainable business models has not gone away. Governments are set on ever-more demanding environmental targets and requirements. Consumers too, increasingly want real and reliable environmental information and eco-designed products, so we’re delighted to be working with the KTN to present the Green Forum on Zoom to help and inspire members to design and make products that deliver both sound sleep and a lighter footprint on the earth’s resources.”

The Green Forum is open to NBF members and invited guests only to attend.
