Emma appoints new CFO

Sebastian Mertes has been appointed CFO of European D2C sleep brand Emma.

"It is optimal timing that Sebastian Mertes will join our management team," says Dennis Schmoltzi, Emma founder and CEO. "We are growing at a record pace and keep ramping up in very competitive markets. His financial expertise is a great advantage. Additionally, he provides valuable impact for our continued positioning as a sleep tech company."

Sebastian who will be responsible for a team of 30. He says: "Emma will achieve profitable revenues of more than €100m this year with only €5m of funding. To me this is absolutely remarkable. Roughly one in a hundred companies can make such efficient use of capital."

Since 2014, Sebastian has been an investment professional with Permira, a British private equity company that holds stakes in companies such as TeamViewer.

"Emma is already active in more than 20 countries and has a digital DNA from the ground up," he continues. "I am looking forward to bringing my skills to this attractive and exciting environment."

Meanwhile, Dennis plans to focus on growth. "We have quickly become a team of over 260 people," he says, "which is great, but 40 further positions are currently being advertised. Attracting and integrating more talent is essential for us and I am pleased that I now have more time to do so."
