FIRA hosts West Midlands flammability training

FIRA International has released details of two new flammability courses which will be taking place in Wednesbury, West Midlands.

The courses, which will be delivered by Phil Reynolds, technical development manager at FIRA International, are: An introduction to Domestic Furniture Fire Safety Training, taking place on Tuesday 8th October from 10am-2pm; and An introduction to Non-domestic Furniture Fire Safety Training, on Wednesday 9th October, 1also from 10am to 2pm.

The curriculum for the domestic furniture course will explain the requirements of the Furniture & Furnishings (Fire) (Safety) Regulations (FFFSR), covering the supply of furniture and beds for domestic use. The course will be structured in a way to show why and how the regulations came about, a look at what is in and out of scope, and an explanation of the testing and labelling requirements.

Crucially, this course will also reference the recent Government response to the 2016 consultation regarding the FFFSR. The response, which was published on 18th July, came off the back of the Environmental Audit Committee’s enquiry into Toxic Chemicals in Everyday Life. While the details and time-frames are currently unclear, more is expected over the coming months.

The non-domestic course will explain how the requirements of the Regulatory Reform (Fire safety) Order affects the supply of furniture and beds for office, contract and hospitality use.

Both courses will take place at the Element Materials Technology site in Wednesbury, which is operated by FIRA International's parent company.

Places will be limited on both courses, to give delegates an opportunity to ask questions related to their specific circumstances. Further details are available here.
