FIRA International continues to expand

The expansion programme at UKAS-accredited test house, FIRA International, has reached another milestone with the installation of nine new structural testing machines.

Designed by FIRA International's in-house team, the new equipment provides significant additional capacity to meet increasing demand. The machines are specifically designed to be able test the strength and durability of all types of furniture products.

Additionally, a swivel test machine built specifically for testing to American ANSI BIFMA standards has been installed.

Howard James, operations manager at FIRA International, says: “The new machines we have in operation are all from further investment from our parent company, Element Materials Technology. The expansion programme is helping us meet the needs of our customers by having the latest adaptable kit which gives us more flexibility in testing more customised products.

“The expansion programme is ongoing, with the installation of a new seating testing machine under way and further upgrades planned throughout 2019.”

Previous expansion completed by FIRA International included the doubling of its UKAS-accredited flammability laboratory, which opened at the end of 2018.
