Sealy sponsors tree planting at local school

Later this week, representatives of Sealy UK will visit St Matthew’s Church of England Primary School in Wigton to help plant tree saplings in the school's grounds.

As part of its carbon management and CSR programme, Sealy, based in Aspatria, has teamed up with Carbon Footprint to plant over 350 native broadleaf tree species in schools across the UK.

The bedmaker is sponsoring the planting of 150 trees at St Matthew's as part of its pledge to make purchasing a mattress more environmentally friendly, following the company recently becoming a Carbon Neutral organisation in both production and distribution.

Carbon Footprint helps hundreds of companies develop robust carbon and sustainability programmes, and organises the planting of native broadleaved trees on behalf of environmentally responsible companies across the UK and Ireland. Sponsored trees are planted in schools and wildlife habitat sites, linked to education and biodiversity benefits.

Neil Robinson, sales and marketing director at Sealy, says: “In these uncertain times for our planet, it’s never been more vital for companies to step up and review their own practices when it comes to the environment. At Sealy, we are committed to operating in a more environmentally friendly way, including a commitment to being zero to landfill and our recent award of Carbon Neutral status, which is why we were delighted to be involved in planting these new saplings with the pupils at St Matthew’s. We hope these new saplings help preserve the natural environment, as well as aiding the children to learn more about the importance of trees.”
