Members of The Furniture Makers’ Company are taking themselves to new heights this summer as a group are planning to cycle up the Giant of Provence, Mont Ventoux, in order to raise money for the charity.
Nine people have signed up to the challenge, which is being organised by Hayden Davies, master of The Furniture Makers’ Company, and is taking place on 13th September.
The relay challenge will see the team collectively cycle all three routes of the 6273ft mountain, with each rider committing to tackle at least one of the ascents.
The cyclists signed up so far are Ben Burbidge, Kirsty Carnell, Peter Hooper, John Irwin, Stewart Linford, Graham Jones, Daniel Mesecke and Paul von der Heyde. Each of the cyclists have set themselves a target to raise a minimum of £500.
The ride has already raised £4000 in sponsorship of the team’s cycling jersey from Action around Bethlehem Children with Disability, Axminster Tools & Machinery, Blum, Burbidge Kitchens, CD UK, Furniture News, Cabinet Maker, KI and Viasit.
Hayden Davies says: “There is no escaping the iconic Mont Ventoux when in Provence. The Giant of Provence, as it is known by the Tour de France competitors, dominates the skyline for miles around. It represents one of those iconic cycling challenges that every cyclist dreams of conquering one day.
“The Furniture Makers’ team is aiming to ascend not one but all three routes to the top in one day, cycling from dawn until dusk, in order to raise funds for our charity. I hope to encourage each and every one of our members to sponsor the team, who are all not just funding their own costs but have bravely committed to raising an additional £500 each.”
