Herman Miller awarded the Manufacturing Guild Mark

The Furniture Makers’ Company, the furnishing industry’s charity, has announced that office furniture manufacturer Herman Miller has been awarded the prestigious Manufacturing Guild Mark.

Sponsored by Lectra, the Manufacturing Guild Mark has been the mark of excellence, distinguishing Britain’s top furnishing manufacturers, since 1993.

The mark is awarded to companies that demonstrate high standards across all aspects of the business, including manufacturing, design, product quality, marketing, finance, commitment to training, employment conditions and sustainability.

The Manufacturing Guild Mark is only open to companies that manufacture the majority of their products in the UK. Companies undergo an audit every three years by the Furniture Industry Research Association on behalf of The Furniture Makers’ Company to ensure their standards of operation remain high.

Herman Miller is a globally recognised provider of furnishings and related technologies and services. Headquartered in West Michigan, the company has relied on innovative design for over 100 years to solve problems for people wherever they work, live, learn, and heal.

Herman Miller was presented the Manufacturing Guild Mark by Dr Tony Smart MBE, Master of The Furniture Makers’ Company, during a ceremony at Herman Miller’s factory in Melksham, Wiltshire on Wednesday 21st June.

Dr Tony Smart MBE, Master of The Furniture Makers’ Company, said: “I would like to extend my congratulations to the whole team at Herman Miller for being awarded the Manufacturing Guild Mark. The Manufacturing Guild Mark is the highest accolade UK furnishing manufacturers can aspire to achieve. Unlike other Guild Marks, the Manufacturing Guild Mark is awarded to the company and not a specific product or product range. Retailers, specifiers, distributors and consumers that deal with companies that hold the mark can rest easy knowing that they are buying from a business that has achieved the highest standards throughout all of its operations.”

Richard Scott, Vice President International Operations at Herman Miller, said: “We are delighted to be awarded the Manufacturing Guild Mark. Herman Miller prides itself on designing furniture with people in mind, and manufacturing it to the highest standards possible. It is an honour to have this commitment recognised by The Furniture Makers’ Company.”

The Keyn Chair Group, designed for Herman Miller by British design firm forpeople, was recently awarded a Design Guild Mark, and the Jonathan Hindle Prize for Excellence.
