Affordable homes and a new hub for furniture makers to protect High Wycombe’s heritage are part of a proposed development by Wycombe District Council.
Furniture makers currently based in Leigh Street would relocate to innovative new low-cost workshops on part of a scheme off Bellfield Road – a further piece of the council’s Hughenden Quarter project, which is currently under construction.
A block of 62 new apartments would also be built as part of the proposals for the Bellfield Road site, providing affordable homes in the heart of the town centre.
Wycombe District Council’s Cabinet Member for Economic Development and Regeneration, Cllr Roger Wilson, says: “The Bellfield Road proposals show the council’s commitment to providing affordable accommodation for our residents and also preserving High Wycombe’s long-standing connection to the furniture industry.”
The council will be hosting a public exhibition outlining the plans in the entrance to Morrisons supermarket in Temple End between noon and 8pm on Thursday 6th April.
The council, in partnership with Bucks New University, has invested £2m into the Hughenden Quarter to redevelop the derelict former Broom and Wade site – which now includes an as-yet un-named spine road and environmental improvements.
The site, already home to 450 BNU students, will include a new Marston’s pub, a retirement village of 260 apartments run by the ExtraCare Charitable Trust and Royal Star and Garter accommodation for ex-servicemen and people with dementia.
