BFM to host design law seminar

The British Furniture Manufacturers (BFM) is to host a seminar to update its members on intellectual property law on 9th June.

The event will take place at the exhibition centre at Cranmore Park, Birmingham, with guest speaker Simon Clark, head of intellectual property at Berwin Leighton Paisner. There will also be a presentation by Steve Moore of the BFM on the EU Commission-funded FreeFoam project.

It will cover topics such as design protection, copyright protection and laws, as well as copyright in fabric and two-dimensional designs, and essential  trademarks together with those for future designs. There will also be reviews of the Tripp Trapp chair, London Black Cabs and KitKat bars cases, and how they apply to furniture designs.

BFN MD Jackie Bazeley says: "It is important to keep our members up to date with current and changing laws within the furniture industry and this seminar is just one of the ways in which we give them access to the kind of vital information they need to run their business."

The day will run from 10.30am to 1pm followed by lunch. The cost of the course is £50 and is available to BFM members, who can register by emailing [email protected].
