Lord Mayor of London visits Furniture Makers’ Hall

The Furniture Makers’ Company, the furnishing industry’s charity and a City of London livery company, welcomed a visit from Lord Mountevans, the 688th Lord Mayor of London, to Furniture Makers’ Hall yesterday.

During his morning visit, the Lord Mayor met with Ben Burbidge, Master of The Furniture Makers’ Company; Tony Smart, senior warden; and Jonny Westbrooke, clerk and chief executive.

The Master, senior warden and clerk talked to the Lord Mayor about the rise of the company’s corporate membership, its three areas of work – education, excellence and welfare – and the organisation’s future growth plans.

Master Ben Burbidge says: “We are absolutely delighted to have hosted a visit from Lord Mountevans at Furniture Makers’ Hall. As an organisation, we’re committed to fostering and supporting the furnishing industry by nurturing the skills and expertise of students, assisting those in need and by championing excellence through our Guild Marks and other awards. It was fantastic to highlight the crucial work the company performs.”

Lord Mountevans, the Lord Mayor of London, says: “It was a pleasure to visit Furniture Makers’ Hall. I was both impressed and encouraged to hear how the company is promoting high standards and supporting young people to learn craft skills and pursue careers in the furnishing industry.”
