SBID opens its representative office in Ukraine

The Society of British and International Design (SBID) are pleased to announce the opening of its representative office in Ukraine, Kyiv. The launch took place last month at the British Ambassador’s Residence hosted by Her Britannic Majesty’s Ambassador Judith Gough.

The Society of British and International Design is the professional accrediting organisation for the interior design industry in the UK representing interior designers, architects, specifiers, manufacturers, developers, and construction professionals with the primary aim of supporting their interests by guiding and measuring the industry’s professional conduct through practice, competence and continued development.

SBID accredits design professionals from around the world, in accordance with the ECIA Charter of Education, who operate across both commercial and residential sectors and represent the range and diversity of a remarkable and creative global industry. The principal purpose of the representative office is to promote SBID’s professional standards and support fair competition in within the Ukrainian market, facilitating the networking of local design specialists with manufacturers in Ukraine and abroad.

Her Britannic Majesty’s Ambassador Judith Gough opened the event with the statement: “Creative economy plays a very important role in the UK economy as a whole. This sector brings more than £71b a year to the British economy and provides jobs for 1.6m people. Our task is to develop cooperation with a prosperous and successful in its work, Ukraine. I hope that SBID will make a huge contribution to the partnership between our countries.”

SBID Ukraine will act as the channel promoting continued professional development opportunities for SBID accredited designers in Ukraine, providing participation via seminars, round tables and other events in this field.

SBID Ukraine will facilitate the recognition of professional Ukrainian design professionals through accreditation and create the appropriate medium to attract investment in the field of construction, production and interior design in Ukraine as well as building up a positive image of Ukraine as being capable to work under European standards.

SBID is part of a global network of 50,000 designers who are professionally accredited and is the sole British representative selected by the 16 nation members of the European Council of Interior Architects (ECIA), the European body responsible for establishing trading standards in Europe, to represent their professional accreditation standards in Britain.

The representative office has become possible thanks to efforts of SBID regional directors Nataliya Bolshakova, interior designer and Member of SBID, and Yuliya Danilova, director of Domio Home Interiors.
