Decorex launches Decorex Future Heritage Foundation

Following the resounding success of Future Heritage in 2014, Decorex has announced the launch of the Decorex Future Heritage Foundation to support British craft. An annual grant will be awarded with the financial support of UBM to help realise the potential of Britain’s next generation of contemporary designer/makers.

The grant will offer financial assistance to help with the purchase of materials and once the commission is sold, proceeds will be reinvested to ensure an annual fund is available to future applicants. Decorex will award grants under the advice and guidance of renowned journalist, applied arts critic and curator of Future Heritage, Corinne Julius.

The inaugural grants have been awarded to Marcin Rusak and Shelley James, two of the names involved in this year’s Future Heritage. Marcin graduated from the Royal College of Art last year and recently was named winner of the prestigious Perrier-Jouët Arts Salon Prize 2015.

Corinne Julius says: “I have been following Marcin’s progress since he started at the RCA. He is thoughtful, perceptive, inventive and dedicated; investigating complex ideas with originality and using unexpected materials. He explores and develops new processes and materials to create works that are intriguing and beautiful and which elicit an emotional as well as an intellectual response in the viewer. The grant has allowed Marcin to develop a new body of striking interior pieces.”

Shelley’s recent work in glass has been focused on perception, exploring the intersection between material and virtual space, which has led to a number of collaborative projects with scientists. Shelley combines complicated technical processes alongside hand finishing to create striking glass works.

Corinne continues: “Shelley has made a profound study of visual perception in her chosen medium glass by collaborating with scientists, designers and architects. Shelley works across the spectrum making architectural glass as well as art pieces. Her work combines scientific understanding, technical skill across glass and printing techniques with design acumen. The grant has helped Shelley develop her architectural installations on a larger scale.”

Both Marcin and Shelley’s work can be seen as part of Future Heritage at Decorex International 2015.
