Olympian recognises Silentnight employees' achievements

Olympic athlete, Jo Pavey, visited Silentnight's headquarters this week to reward employees who have gone above and beyond at work. The British long-distance runner visited the employees as part of Silentnight’s Achievements campaign which highlights the importance of a great night’s sleep. On her visit to the Barnoldswick site, the Olympian gave a speech about her experiences, took a tour of the factory, met some of the staff and presented the winner of the internal achievements award.

For the awards, members of the Silentnight team were nominated by fellow employees for having achieved something great, either at work or at home – from completing the Three Peaks Challenge for charity to being a volunteer blood biker. Employees were also treated to a sleep clinic with Silentnight sleep expert, Dr Nerina Ramlakhan, who made a presentation on how to sleep better, and gave employees the opportunity to have a one-to-one session with her.

Juggling a successful running career with raising a young family, Jo has taken part in four Olympic Games, and recently won gold in the 10,000m race at the Zurich 2014 European Championships – at the age of 41, just 11 months after giving birth to her second child. She was the oldest woman ever to claim gold at a European Championships, and in June was awarded an MBE for her services to athletics.

Jo says: “I’ve really enjoyed meeting the team here at Silentnight. Getting to know the employees and seeing how hard they work has been really inspiring. The role they play in ensuring Silentnight continues to be a thriving local business is crucial and I’m thrilled to come and reward them for their achievements.”

Nick Booth, marketing director at Silentnight, adds: “Jo Pavey was the obvious choice for the ambassador of our Achievements campaign. It’s fantastic to bring her to Barnoldswick get everyone at the head office involved, and reward our team’s achievements internally."
