John Lewis' Home directorate enjoys strong trading week

This week produced a mixed picture for trade for John Lewis, with the overall outcome a sales increase on last year of 6.3%. Although the continuing unseasonable warm weather had an impact, online sales were strong at 25.9% up on last year, with Click & collect continuing to power ahead.

The Home directorate enjoyed another strong week, with an increase on last year of 11.8%. Furniture was once again the powerhouse, with Beds continuing its general upwards trend and scoring a sales increase of over 40%, and Floor Coverings also on fine form.

The highlight of the week was the successful opening of the first John Lewis in a railway station at St Pancras. The store has a striking design set off against the Grade 1 listed architecture of St Pancras. In the heart of this historic building, John Lewis has opened a trailblazing omni-channel shop, which at once found favour with customers, both for immediate purchases, and for those wanting to click and commute.
