ScS shapes senior management team for growth

ScS Group, one of the UK’s leading sofa and carpet specialists, has confirmed two key appointments to support its future growth and expansion plans.

The Group’s long-serving merchandise controller, Simon Nicholson, is appointed to the new role of ScS furniture buyer director, and Paul Burke joins the business as ScS sales director, responsible for its 100 retail stores.

Having joined the Group almost 30 years ago, Simon has worked very closely with David Knight, chief executive, on product selection and development, working with suppliers to deliver its range of core and famous brand product lines. Simon’s new appointment sees him take full responsibility for this area, while also tasked with exploring opportunities to further grow and develop its product offering.

Paul Burke also joins the trading board as ScS sales director. Paul will work closely with Kevin Royal, MD (former sales director), and the senior team, to ensure retail strategies are delivered to maximise sales and group profits, while meeting customer needs and satisfaction. Paul has over 30 years of extensive experience of managing retail businesses and teams, working for national brands including MFI, Homestyle and as Retail Director at Harveys.

Kevin Royal says: “Following a successful 2016 for the ScS business these two new senior appointments are central to our growth plans for 2017 and beyond. Simon is an invaluable asset to us and his knowledge and experience of product selection and range design, built up over nearly 30 years in the industry, will help us further grow our customer appeal, while also continuing to deliver on our core values of quality and affordability.

“New to the business, Paul joins us with a fantastic portfolio of big-ticket retailing experience, and we look forward to working with him to further strengthen and expand our position as a leading UK sofa and carpet specialist. Both appointments are key to our growth and expansion plans, and in shaping our senior management team for the future.”

These two appointments are part of a series of recent additions to the company’s senior team to help spearhead the group’s future growth, after a strong 2016 financial performance and reaching the milestone of 100 stores at the end of last year. Notable appointments include Elaine Ray as brand development director for its House of Fraser concession, Farren Murphy as commercial manager, and Lacey Hewison as head of operational improvement. The year also saw Marie Liston taking on the new role of corporate services Director, and Chris Muir join the Group as its new CFO.
