Sporting stars raise funds for Cumbrian flood appeal

Sporting stars, Sam Vokes and David Haye have helped raise more than £500 in an online auction for the Cumbrian flood appeal, with all proceeds being donated to the Cumbria Community Foundation.

Welsh striker, Sam Vokes donated a signed Wales shirt and four VIP tickets to watch Wales take on Northern Ireland from the Player’s Lounge at Cardiff City Stadium, which were auctioned off for the appeal with a pair of signed gloves from world heavyweight boxing champion, David Haye.

Both stars were invited to help the appeal by Aspatria-based Sealy, having played a part in the bed manufacturer’s World of Sport campaign, which aims to highlight the  link between sleep and sporting success.

David appeared on the brand’s stand at the NBF Bed Show in Telford back in September where he signed autographs and talked about his own experience of sleep and training, while Sam, whose strict training regime means he knows first-hand the impact good quality sleep has on sporting performance, is one of the campaign ambassadors.

The online auctions raised a collective total of £510 for the Cumbria Flood Recovery Appeal, with bids coming in from numerous sporting fans from across the UK. The proceeds will help to support the residents affected by flooding in December 2015, and earlier this year.

Sam Vokes, who presented the shirt at Cardiff City Stadium on 24th March says: “It’s great to have helped raise money for such a worthy cause. The floods were devastating for those living in Cumbria and I’m pleased to have been able to support those affected in the region.”

Neil Robinson, sales and marketing director at Sealy says: “We would like to thank David and Sam for donating the signed items to our auction, and helping with the Cumbria flood appeal. We are a Cumbrian company and the appeal is close to our hearts. The floods directly impacted on people in our community, and we have done what we can to help residents during this difficult time. We hope the successful bidders enjoy their signed lots and that the money raised goes a long way to helping our friends and neighbours.”
