May Design Series comes to an end

Show organiser UBM has announced the closure of the May Design Series event, as well as plans for future UK events to provide industry-targeted niche exhibitions.

Responding to exhibitor and visitor feedback, May Design Series, the multi-sector show organised by UBM since 2013, will no longer run, and relevant exhibitors will instead be offered opportunities within kbb Birmingham or London, Sleep, Decorex International or Ecobuild.

Speaking about the decision to concentrate on events targeting specialist niches, Alison Jackson, portfolio director at UBM EMEA Built Environment, says: “We’ve decided to cancel May Design Series and put our efforts into our niche market events as our exhibitors and visitors have informed us they want a more curated experience.

“In a world of information overload, our visitors need a focused event that exhibits the best and new product and thinking within that sector and takes a deep dive into the future of the sector, engaging with new ideas and trends and networking opportunities within that niche of the industry.”

Targeting London designers, architects and specifiers, the May Design Series event performed well upon its launch in 2013, yet the organiser's efforts relocate exhibitors from the final edition of Interiors UK in 2014 at subsequent editions saw little growth in footfall.

UBM's various other interiors events have experienced some success, with visitor numbers to both Sleep and Decorex up 10% and 8% respectively over the last two years. kbb Birmingham 2014 enjoyed its largest number of exhibitors ever, and Ecobuild achieved 5% growth at its last edition.
